As the leaves begin their slow, golden shift and the forest hums with the quiet promise of a new season, we open our doors and our hearts once again to welcome a new group of children to Second Nature School.

Enrollment is now open for September for children ages 4 to 12, and we couldn’t be more excited to invite new families into our growing Second Nature community.
Because for many children, school hasn’t felt safe.
Or calm.
Or joyful.
We’re here to change that.
What Is Second Nature School?
Second Nature School is a neuro-affirming, trauma-informed educational program rooted in nature, relationship, and respect for each child’s unique way of being in the world.
Here, children are free to move, explore, wonder, and learn at their own rhythm—without the pressure to conform, mask, or perform.
Our days are shaped by the seasons, the children's interests, and the nervous systems in the room. We believe in emergent, play-based learning that is rich in curiosity, co-regulation, and connection.
We support:
Neurodivergent children (Autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, PDA profiles, etc.)
Children with anxiety, trauma histories, or school-related distress
Kids who are sensitive, spirited, or simply don’t fit in traditional boxes
Families seeking a slower, more relational approach to education
What Makes Us Different?
At Second Nature School, everything is intentional. From the calming textures of our outdoor classrooms to the way we greet children in the morning, every detail is designed to support regulation, trust, and authentic learning.
Here’s what you’ll find:
🐿️ Daily time in nature, both inside and outside
🧠 Sensory-informed learning spaces
🪵 Small group ratios with skilled, compassionate staff
💚 Gentle transitions and child-led routines
🎨 Emergent curriculum based on student interests
🪺 Deep respect for each child's autonomy, communication, and needs
Most of all, you’ll find a team who truly sees your child, understands neurodivergence, and believes that connection—not compliance—is the foundation of all meaningful growth.
Full-Time & Part-Time Options
We know every family’s needs and capacities are unique. That’s why we offer flexible program structures, including:
Full-Time Enrollment: 4–5 days/week
Part-Time Enrollment: 1–3 days/week
Both options provide consistent, predictable rhythms, co-regulation, and access to our therapeutic team.
Whether your child is ready to be immersed full-time or needs a gentler step toward learning, there’s a place for them here.
Tuition Support Plans Available
We are committed to making our program as accessible as possible to families who share our values. Through the support of generous donors and our community partners, we are proud to offer:
Partial scholarships
Flexible payment plans
Community-funded spaces for families in need
Because healing and education should never be out of reach. If your family is a good fit for Second Nature, we’ll do everything we can to make it work financially.
Why September Matters
The start of a new school year is more than just a date—it’s a fresh beginning. A chance to say yes to something different. Something softer. Something true.
If you’re a parent whose child has been misunderstood, overlooked, or overwhelmed in other learning environments—know that there is a place where your child can thrive just as they are.
That place is here.
Under the trees.
Among the wildflowers.
In a space where being yourself is not just allowed—it’s celebrated.
