Grounded In Neuroscience
Every material, color, and layout choice is informed by current research in sensory processing, nervous system regulation, and environmental psychology, not just aesthetics.
We co-create environments that soothe the nervous system, spark connection, and reflect the principles of trauma-informed care, rooted in science, shaped by nature.

"Rooted in the science of sensory regulation and the art of therapeutic presence, our design approach prioritizes comfort, flexibility, and emotional safety above all else."

At Second Nature, we believe design is not simply aesthetic, it is deeply therapeutic. Whether you're creating a calm-down corner in a child's bedroom, redesigning a neuro-inclusive classroom, or transforming a corporate space to support mental wellness, the physical environment plays a profound role in emotional regulation and wellbeing.
Our supportive sensory design spaces offer thoughtfully curated classroom, home, and workplace spaces that reflect the principles of trauma-informed care, neuro-affirming practices, and deep connection to nature. We don't just design rooms, we design experiences of belonging.
Every space we design is built around the same truth: when an environment feels safe, regulated, and welcoming, people can finally show up as themselves.

Beyond our three core environments, we offer a range of specialized consulting services to support the nuanced sensory and accessibility needs of every space.
Tailored recommendations on lighting, textures, layout, and materials to support diverse sensory needs, whether for one room or an entire building. Ideal for schools, clinics, and offices seeking expert sensory guidance without a full redesign.
Incorporating natural elements, textures, and rhythms to bring the outdoors in and deepen calm. From living walls and organic materials to natural light strategy and earthy palettes, nature heals, and we know how to channel it.
Inclusive planning that honors lived experience and supports meaningful accessibility. We facilitate collaborative design workshops where every voice, including the child's, helps shape the environment they'll live or learn in.
From the tiniest calm corner in a child's room to a full therapeutic classroom redesign, every project starts with the same question: how does this space need to feel?

This isn't about picking pretty colors. It's about creating spaces that actively support wellbeing, regulation, and belonging for every person who walks through the door.

Our team includes parents and advocates of neurodivergent children. We design from the inside out, with empathy that goes far beyond professional training alone.
Biophilic design, natural light, organic materials, earth tones, plant life, is at the heart of everything we create. Nature regulates; our spaces amplify that power.
You are the expert on your own space and family. We bring the design knowledge; you bring the lived wisdom. Together, we create something neither could achieve alone.
Accessibility isn't an add-on, it's our starting point. Every space we design is built to welcome the full spectrum of human neurology and physical ability from day one.
As part of the Second Nature Family, our design work is informed by the same trauma-informed, neuro-affirming principles that guide our therapy and education services.

We know that neuro-inclusive interior design is a newer concept for many families. Here are the questions we hear most often before a first consultation.
Neuro-inclusive design creates physical environments that actively support the sensory, emotional, and cognitive needs of neurodivergent individuals, including those with autism, ADHD, SPD, and anxiety. Rather than designing for an assumed 'average' brain, we design for the full spectrum of human neurology. This includes choices around lighting, acoustics, color, texture, spatial flow, flexibility, and the integration of natural elements.
Sensory-informed interior design is the practice of creating spaces that actively support how people experience sensory input : light, sound, texture, colour, movement, and spatial layout. Rather than designing purely for aesthetics, we design for how a space makes the nervous system feel. The goal is an environment that promotes calm, regulation, and a sense of safety, especially for neurodivergent individuals and families.
Our services are for anyone who wants a space that supports wellbeing. That includes families creating calmer homes for neurodivergent children, schools and early learning centres building inclusive classrooms, therapists and clinicians designing sensory-aware practice spaces, and organizations looking to support mental wellness in the workplace. If the space matters to how someone feels, we can help.
All three. We offer neuro-affirming classroom design for schools and therapeutic centres, therapeutic home spaces including sensory rooms, calm-down corners, and children's bedrooms, and wellness-focused workplace design for offices, clinics, and community spaces. Every project is guided by the same principle: when an environment feels safe and regulated, people can show up as themselves.
A traditional interior designer focuses primarily on aesthetics and function. We start with the nervous system. Our designs are rooted in trauma-informed care, sensory integration principles, and biophilic design, informed by our clinical team's experience working with neurodivergent children and families every day. We don't just make spaces look good. We make them feel safe, regulated, and deeply supportive for the people living, learning, or working in them.
