Sensory-Friendly Haircare

Haircuts On Their Terms

Sensory Scissors is not a traditional salon service. All sessions take place in a neuroaffirming, sensory-friendly clinic designed to prioritize your child’s comfort and well-being. Every child experiences new environments differently, so session length and outcomes may vary based on your child’s sensory profile, needs, and comfort level. Our focus is not on achieving a perfect haircut, but on providing a safe, supportive space where your child can feel proud, practice coping skills, and have a positive, stress-free experience.

Sensory-Friendly Haircare

"We meet children where they are, whether that's standing up, seated with a caregiver, or taking breaks throughout the session."

Second Nature About
What Is Sensory Scissors

A Haircut Experience  Designed for Them

Sensory Scissors is a specialized hair care service designed for neurodivergent children and youth, including those with autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, and anxiety. Our approach is slow, supportive, and fully attuned to each child's sensory profile.

From visual schedules to noise-reducing tools and familiar routines, we create a calm and compassionate experience, entirely on your child's terms.

Every session is built around comfort first. We take all the time your child needs, celebrate their courage, and make sure they leave feeling proud, not overwhelmed.

WHO WE WELCOME

Every Child Is Welcome Here

Frequently Asked Questions

We get this a lot: "Is Second Nature a school? A therapy program? Childcare?" The answer is yes, a hybrid model where education and therapeutic support come together seamlessly.

Our Sensory Haircut Cut is 45 minutes and costs $50. We also offer a Desensitization & Play Prep Session for $20 (30 minutes), which is a great first step for children who need time to explore the space and build trust before any cutting begins. For families who prefer haircuts at home, our In-Home Haircut (Mobile Service) is 60 minutes and costs $80.

Yes! We offer an In-Home Haircut mobile service for families who feel their child would be more comfortable in a familiar environment. The session is 60 minutes and costs $80. Our stylist brings all the sensory-safe tools and follows the same child-led, patient approach we use in clinic.

Absolutely. Parents and caregivers are welcome to stay for the entire session. Many children feel calmer with a familiar person nearby, and some even sit on a caregiver's lap during the cut. We follow your child's lead on what feels safest for them.
